Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) recently had many students compete in the 2019 IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation (ICST 2019), the 2019 International Symposium on Software Testing and Analysis (ISSTA 2019) and the 2019 IEEE International Conference on Software Quality, Reliability, and Security (QRS 2019). SUSTech students continued to bring home numerous accolades, including championships in all three competitions.

Liu Yi (Class of 2020) finished first in ICST 2019, ISSTA 2019 and QRS 2019, representing three championships for SUSTech. Class of 2019 student Fan Zhiyu also finished on the podium with a 3rd place in ISSTA 2019, with graduate student Li Linlin finishing 3rd in ICST 2019. Class of 2020 Zhou Ying finished 2nd in QRS 2019, while Li Ziqiang and Wu Qiuqi also performed well.

All these students are conducting research within the Intelligent Software Engineering Laboratory of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The laboratory is led by Chair Professor and Department Head Yao Xin, with assistant professors Zhang Yuqun, Liu Yepang and Shin Hwei Tan also guiding the students. The laboratory is examining a variety of areas, including search-based software engineering, auto-repair of software, service computing, software security and mobile computing.

All three competitions belong to the International Software Testing Contest, sponsored by the IEEE Reliability Society and held concurrently with major international conferences in software engineering to promote advanced software testing theories, technologies and tools.

ICST 2019:

IEEE ICST is an internationally authoritative academic conference on software testing and was first held in Xi’an in 2019. It is an individual competition, with the top ten awarded certificates, and the top three awarded prizes at the conference dinner.
