On January 3, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE-School) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and UBTech Robotics came together to announce the formation of a practice base. IE-School Vice Dean Shao Liyang and UBTech Senior Vice President Zhong Yong attended the ceremony, along with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Associate Professor Chen Fei & IE-School Research Associate Professor Liu Wei.
IE-School Vice Dean Shao Liyang said that UBTech Robotics is one of the most highly valued AI robotics start-ups, while SUSTech is one of the most promising universities. SUSTech’s philosophical pillars of “research, innovation, and entrepreneurship” are supported by IE-School, which operates and facilitates the education of all postgraduate engineering students. He spoke highly of the future plans of the cooperation between UBTech Robotics and IE-School in all areas.
UBTech Senior Vice President Zhong Yong added that UBTech Robotics attaches significant importance to industry-university research with top universities of international renown. SUSTech represents top innovative STEM universities across the Greater Bay Area, and he acknowledged the importance of high-level collaboration between SUSTech and UBTech Robotics. Zhong Yong pointed out that both parties will be able to leverage the advantages of each other in fully mobilizing their resources for a win-win industry-university research partnership, under the framework of the joint practice base.
Going forward, the practice base will launch AI and robotics courses related to walking theory and gait control, using UBTech Robotics’ humanoid robots. The course will be based at SUSTech, to allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in as many ways as possible. Both sides will work together for the development of long-term talent pipelines that support in-depth industry-university research.
