SUSTC delegation led by the Secretary Mr. Li Ming visited ten world prestigious universities and Pairs-based headquarters of UNESCO

From 18th to 27th of April, 2015, the Party Committee Secretary of SUSTC Mr. Li Ming visited ten world prestigious universities in Saudi Arabia, France and UK to discuss the international cooperation and talents cultivation, learn campus infrastructure and information construction, understand the network teaching and open study, and recruit talents. Mr. Li also paid a visit to the Pairs-based headquarters of UNESCO for important talks.

The delegation first arrived in Saudi Arabia where they visited the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). During the visit the delegation discussed matters concerning the mutual cooperation and the exchange of students with the president Mr. Chameau and the vice president Mr. Kelvin of KAUST; and they have also visited the world’s top campus and laboratories of KAUST.

The delegation visited Paris Dauphine University, which is famous for the economic management and the Pierre and Marie Curie University that is praised as “the science and ideology crystal in the center of Pairs”. They have investigated the settings of subjects, policies on academic talents and the construction of campus with urban characteristics of both schools. Moreover, they paid a visit to Mr. Leon Vandermeercshe, the senior French sinologist, with whom, the delegation talked about the education of humanities and social sciences of college students.

The delegation visited University of Aberdeen, one of the members of Shenzhen International Friendship City Universities, in UK and signed the Cooperation Framework Agreement between SUSTC and University of Aberdeen formally. The delegation also discussed with the international affairs directors of several colleges of University of Aberdeen to expand the cooperation field and understand the remote education and the current development of MOOCs. They have also deeply discussed the cooperation of universities with the academic dean of University of Liverpool, investigated the campus reconstruction project, newly established scientific research and teaching laboratory building, and also got a grasp of the information technical service system. The delegation focused on the exploration of the college and tutorial system in University of Oxford, led a discussion with the leaders of the Engineering School of University of Warwick, and visited the cooperative laboratory building under construction. In the University of Cambridge, the delegation investigated the world first-class Biomedicine Park integrated with the study of biomedicine, medical treatment and medical education. They have also paid a visit to the University of Brunel, which is one of the few campus universities in London.

During the visit in the UK, the delegation also held a small job fair at Imperial College to invite the young scholars to think of coming back to China, and specially to allow those that tries to apply for teaching post in SUSTC to understand the recent development, prospect and talent policies of SUSTC. The delegation patiently answered questions on matters concerning the talent treatment and promotion, scientific research fees, planning on the settings of subject and talent cultivation.
