Senior Editor for Nature Materials presents a lecture at SUSTech

Recently, Dr. John Plummer , a senior editor for Nature Materials, presented a lecture to the students and faculty members as a distinguished guest invited by Prof. HE Jiaqing, the chair of physic department. President CHEN Shiyi and vice president TANG Tao held a warm and friendly talk with the guest speaker.

On the morning of the same day, Dr. John Plummer visited the laboratory of the physic department, accompanied by the chair of physic.

During the lecture in the afternoon, Dr. John Plummer gave a lecture on the topic of Publishing in Nature Journals. He presented an overview of the Nature family of journals, including the criteria for publication and what the editors are looking for. Dr. Plummer highly appreciates the research capability of China, with a share of 17% in the global publication output. In terms of the citation rate of paper,the rate has been increased to 18% in 2013. In 2013, China’s publication output was as highly as 6% in the Nature publication group (NPG).

John Plummer is an editor for Nature Materials. John earned a MEng in materials science and engineering from the University of Sheffield, UK, and remained there for a PhD, investigating glass formation and the mechanical properties of metallic glasses. As an editor, John started with Nature Communications in January 2013, and then joined Nature Materials in October 2014, where he handles manuscripts on structural materials, multiferroics, thermoelectrics and other topics of condensed matter physics. John is based in Shanghai.
