On April 9-10, 2016, IEEE CSC 2016 was held in SUSTech, which was co-sponsored by IEEE, DJI and SUSTech Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). It was the first time for IEEE CSC to be held in Shenzhen. With the organizing work spearheaded by IEEE SUSTech Students Chapter, it was also the first time for SUSTech undergraduates to organize such a large and senior-level academic meeting of exchanges.

IEEE Former Chairman Mr. Howard Michel, R10 Enterprise Committee Chairman Ms. Simay Akar, IEEE China Business Supervisor Mr. Zhao Yongqian, Ms. Wang Lan from IEEE China Office, and IEEE China Information Manager Ms. Li Jing were present at IEEE CSC 2016. Prof. Chen Yifan & Chair of SUSTech Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department was present at the meeting and gave a speech. The meeting was attended by nearly 80 representatives from IEEE Student chapters in 30 universities in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Chongqing and Xi’an.

Chairman Zhang Yue of IEEE SUSTech Student Chapter chaired the meeting, who expressed warm welcome to delegates and other participants.

Mr. Howard Michel placed great emphasis on the meeting and gave a speech entitled “Maximizing Your Excellence Throughout Your Career”. He made presentations on IEEE by elaborating on its mission, ideal, history, structure, depth and intensity of R&D and publications. After that, Mr. Howard Michel talked about his own professional career in IEEE. By comparing him as a Seasoned Professional with the student representatives as the Young Professional, he revealed the unique charm of IEEE to the student delegates.

After giving the speech, Mr. Howard Michel gave certificate of volunteer to IEEE SUSTech Student Chapter to commend its outstanding contributions to the organizing work.

Ms. Simay Akar gave a speech entitled My IEEE Journey and told her experience in IEEE.

During the meeting, the student delegates were active to speak and discuss about bottlenecks and challenges they meet in their academic development, trying to find solutions to them. University student delegates shared their experience in university management and developing IEEE Student chapters, such as corporate sci-tech platform in Beijing Jiaotong University and programming contest and online promotions in the University of Electronic Science & Technology of China, etc.

Chairman Howard Michel received the interview by the journalist during the meeting, who praised SUSTech undergraduates for the successful organizing of IEEE CSC, “Student involvement is much better than before”. At the same time, Mr. Howard Michel proposed the concepts of “global” and “local”. In terms of “global”, people are willing to see prosperous development of IEEE student chapters in Chinese universities. About “local”, in-depth understanding and cooperation among Chinese universities should be enhanced.
