Over the weekend, the Alumni Association of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held the inaugural meeting of its Hong Kong branch. Kowloon Bay was the host venue, with University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang joining Alumni Association Vice President Han Wei and Alumni Association Assistant Secretary-general Geng Jun.
Assistant Secretary-General Geng Jun briefed attendees about the developments of the SUSTech Alumni Association and preparations for the Hong Kong branch. The core work of the Alumni Association is to bring together alumni. With Hong Kong having the largest number of SUSTech alumni, it is critically important to establish the Hong Kong Alumni Association. As a result, the Hong Kong Alumni Association would actively create conditions to build alumni resource platforms and support the lifelong development of alumni.
Alumni Association Vice President Han Wei congratulated the Hong Kong Alumni Association on its establishment. She hoped that the alumni would take advantage of the development opportunities of the Great Bay Area.
Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang announced the establishment of the Hong Kong Alumni Association. He awarded the flag of the Hong Kong-SUSTech Alumni Association.
Li Xiaoyang reported on the Hong Kong Alumni Association work plan in 2019. He spoke about the service tenets of the Hong Kong Alumni Association, which is “rooted in Hong Kong and fully serving the SUSTech community in Hong Kong”. He said he would focus on strengthening organizational development, carrying out alumni activities, raising a sense of belonging of alumni and inheriting alumni culture.
Li Fengliang talked about SUSTech’s recent achievements, and how important establishing the Hong Kong Alumni Association is in the context of the development of the Great Bay Area. SUSTech alumni are an important resource for a university. They reflect the achievements and influences of universities. SUSTech will always be a strong supporter of alumni.
