On April 2016, SUSTech Library submitted over eighty thousand bibliographic data sources to China Academic Library & Information System, serving the readers from nation-wide universities and institutions so long as they have network connections to the China Education & Research Network. The SUSTech Library Nation-wide Resource-sharing service is officially launched.
The China Academic Library and Information System1 (abbreviated as CALIS), which was started in 1998, is a nation-wide resource-sharing system among Chinese academic libraries. As one of the sub-projects of Project 2112, its mission is to serve directly those universities which are funded by the central government in the project, by providing document and information services to the users through the China Education and Research Network (CERNET3). In the meantime, CALIS also serves users in other universities and colleges so long as they have network connections to the China Education & Research Network (abbreviated as CERNET). Thus, CALIS and CERNET are known as “Two Public Service Systems”.
The conception of CALIS is based on the fact that no single library can collect all the information materials published in the world, and no single library can serve all the needs required by users. Since China is still a developing country, there is not enough money to enhance all the libraries, so it would be more efficient and more cost-effective to invest in a resource-sharing framework than to establish independent systems in each library.
SUSTech became one of the member of the CALIS member library in its first year. SUSTech Library provides Interlibrary Services and Document Delivery Services through CALIS for the students and faculty.
After the launching of the service,7774 unique collections of western languages books will be offered through CALIS.
