SUSTech Undertakes the 5th Symposium on Structural Biology of China
| 05/01/2016

From April 27 to 29, the 5th Symposium on Structural Biology of China was held in Kylin Villa, Shenzhen. The symposium was undertaken by SUSTech and jointly hosted by the Cryo-EM Committee, Chinese Electron Microscopy Society, the Molecular Biophysics Branch, Biophysical Society of China, the Microscopic Imaging of Biological Ultrastructure Committee and the Macromolecules Committees, Chinese Crystallographic Society.

As a national professional conference, the Symposium is held once every three years. The 5th one just held in Shenzhen covered the latest research results on new theories, technologies and methods in fields such as the X-ray crystallography, the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), the cryo-EM and the computational biology. Moreover, to meet the needs of China’s state strategy and keep up with the latest international scientific trend, the participants discussed the development strategy for the structural biology of China in the new era and drafted a map to implement it.

Almost all the leading experts and scholars in the field of structural biology attended the symposium. Among the over 240 participants, five are academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and dozens are chief scientists of state key projects, and winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Over 40 scholars delivered reports on related topics and exchanged with each other. The symposium was organized by the local organizing committee with Prof. Wang Tao from SUSTech Department of Biology as the director.

Academician Sui Senfang delivers a brilliant speech at the opening ceremony.

Academician Gao Fu reports on the latest progress in Ebola virus research.

Academician Wu Yundong introduces the new calculation methods for protein molecular force fields.
