Early in the week, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held the first meetings of its General Education Teaching Management Committee.
Dean Chen Yuehong of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences hosted the meeting, and was joined by the heads of the Social Sciences Center, the Higher Education Research Center, the Arts Center, and the Center for Language Education, along with the teaching secretaries of those centers.
Through the discussions at the meeting, they determined to formally establish the General Education Teaching Management Committee (the Committee) of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. It will represent the management institution that guides, evaluates, deliberates and decides on the major issues for the general education curriculum. This is an important organizational component of the general education curriculum.
The meeting also agreed to discuss and research the initial tasks and curriculum construction for the centers. They also spoke about designing the general education curriculum, and how to best cooperate with the graduate school to provide relevant and appropriate liberal arts courses. There was also a discussion of basic principles and implementation plans for each center.
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences was established on May 7, 2019. The meeting also resolved to comprehensively improve the teaching quality of general humanities courses and cultivate innovative talents with broad knowledge, noble morality and elegant behavior.
