In the spirit of “fulfill dreams in SUSTech and dare to be pioneers”, 2016 SUSTech Summer Camp was inaugurated on July 6. This three-day activity was jointly hosted by SUSTech and Graduate School. Participants are 300 teachers and students (including post-graduate students) from China’s renowned universities, such as Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, etc.   

SUSTech President Chen Shiyi, vice President and Research Dean of Graduate School Tang Tao, vice President Wu Chuanyue, Chief Financial Officer Ye Qin, and Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun attended the opening ceremony; academicians such as Yu Dapeng and Tang Shuxian, and deans of all schools and departments were also at present.

President Chen Shiyi delivered a welcome speech at the meeting. On behalf of SUSTech, he extended warm welcome to participants, saying, “Your visits are meant for mutual understanding. SUSTech expects to see your potential and capabilities. At the same time, you can inspect academic atmosphere and living environment of SUSTech.”

Mr. Chen added, “I believe that SUSTech is a university that can live up to your expectations. Yesterday, we saw off the second cohort of graduates. These 166 students made a very courageous choice. I hope you can choose our university with courage and confidence as they did. We have the best resources, featuring international facilities, well-qualified mentors, and open and free academic environment. We dedicated to offer post-graduates the most advanced academic guidance, and we aim to cultivate world-class PhD students and research personnel. We are waiting for you!”

Mr. Chen’s address evoked resonance from graduates, and won him thunderous applause. 

Vice President Tang Tao also made a speech, in which he introduced SUSTech to the attendees, and wished the summer camp a success.

Academician Yu Dapeng told students: “Choosing SUSTech allows you to write your own chapter. Never let your dreams perish. Always protect your childish innocence and curiosity. Keep you motivation, and live to the fullest and work with whole heart.”

Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun said with humor: “I hope you will join SUSTech clan, and dominate the academic world by the ‘martial arts’ you have learned here.”

Dean of Methmetics Department, Professor Xia Zhihong, shared his work and life in SUSTech under the theme of “Seize opportunities to Build a Better SUSTech”.

After the ceremony, hosts and guests took photos to mark the occasion.
