On July 12, 2016, SUSTech signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement (hereafter referred to as the Agreement) with Shenzhen GenTarGet Co., Ltd. under the Cheerland Investment Group(CLIG). In addition, CLIG donated 110 million RMB to SUSTech Education Foundation and set up SUSTech-CL Investment Group Innovation Foundation. President of the National Fund for Technology Transfer and Commercialization, former President of China Merchants Bank and President of Shenzhen GenTarGet Institute Ma Weihua, Chairman of CLIG Liu Ruyin, Council Chairman of SUSTech Guo Yurong and President of SUSTech Chen Shiyi attended the activity. The signing ceremony was hosted by Vice President of SUSTech Wang Duoxiang.
President Chen Shiyi made a speech during the ceremony, expressing gratitude for the support from CLIG and willingness to establish strategic cooperation with it. The Agreement between SUSTech and CLIG would boost future reform and development and exploration in science for SUSTech, facilitate SUSTech to realize its goal of growing into a high-level, international research university, and strongly support CLIG to take the lead in the global industrial structure.
During the ceremony, President Chen Shiyi and Chairman of CLIG Liu Ruyin signed the Agreement. According to the Agreement, SUSTech and CLIG would cooperate in fields including high and new technology research and development, technology transfer, construction of R&D platforms and application of research projects. Both sides would promote resources sharing, establish the SUSTech-CLIG International Center for Innovation, hatch and procreate scientific and technological enterprises as well as facilitate the utilization of scientific and technological achievements.
Vice President of SUSTech Wu Chuanyue, along with President of GenTarGet Zhang Guoyan and Deputy Director of Center for Technology Transfer of Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation Zhang Zuotai, signed an agreement regarding establishing a collaborative institute for precision medicine innovation. All parties would set a clear goal and take corresponding measures to jointly facilitate R&D and industrialization in precision medicine.
After the ceremony, on behalf of their respective sides, Council Chairman of SUSTech Guo Yurong and Chairman of CLIG Liu Ruyin completed the donation, where CLIG donated 110 million RMB to SUSTech and set up the SUSTech-CLIG Education Foundation to promote professional training, and scientific and technological communication, and the development of bioscience, medical science, and related subjects, as well as support the establishment and development of the SUSTech-CLIG International Center for Innovation.
After that, President Chen Shiyi, on behalf of SUSTech, granted a Certificate of Education Contribution to Chairman of CLIG Liu Ruyin.
As a significant industry in the future, precision medicine refers to selecting the most suitable cure based on the diagnosis test of a patient’s genetic information and other molecule or cell analysis results. At present, Shenzhen is aiming at this field. SUSTech will give full play to its own disciplinary advantages and cooperate with GenTarGet to gather a number of top talents, generate a host of world-leading achievements and further to build a world-class precision medicine highland.
