Earlier this week, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology (Second Affiliated Hospital) held a seminar to discuss its construction. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, President Chen Shiyi, Vice President Lu Chun and Second Affiliated Hospital Dean Liu Lei attended the seminar, with other senior leaders of SUSTech. Director Wang Pengfei from the Preparatory Office of the University Affiliated Hospitals presided over the meeting.

At the seminar, Liu Lei reported on the development of the Second Affiliated Hospital Construction Plan and its 2019 Key Work Plan, among other reports. He spoke about the planning and development for its key specialties, competitive advantages, the construction of the National Clinical Research Center for Tuberculosis, and the next steps. Meeting attendees discussed the reports, methods for introducing talent, plans for scientific research and building the School of Medicine.

Chairperson Guo Yurong fully affirmed the Second Affiliated Hospital on building the National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases. She congratulated the successful application of the National Clinical Research Center for Tuberculosis, and thanked them for their support in the development of SUSTech’s School of Medicine.

President Chen Shiyi said that the Second Affiliated Hospital’s development plan has distinctive features and clear goals. The Second Affiliated Hospital should clearly define its targets, improve and further strengthen the competitiveness of their key specialties. SUSTech will continue to support the hospital’s National Clinical Research Center for Tuberculosis and strengthen cooperation with the hospital in introducing high-level talents, major scientific research projects, key laboratory construction and clinical teaching. The Second Affiliated Hospital has created a high-level research hospital featuring tuberculosis, infectious disease treatment and organ transplantation.

Dean Liu Lei said that as an affiliated hospital of SUSTech, the Second Affiliated Hospital will continue to promote brand integration, resource sharing and cooperation with SUSTech. Based on the many high-quality platforms of SUSTech, the Second Affiliated Hospital will further improve and develop into a modern research-oriented hospital integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching and health-care that fundamentally builds SUSTech’s medical discipline.
