On August 22, 2016, President Chen Shiyi and over 40 members from the South Startup Service Center of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts (known as the Thousand Talents Plan, hereinafter called the Plan) convened a symposium at SUSTech.

President Chen Shiyi extended his welcome and gratitude to the attendees for their unwavering support for SUSTech. According to him, SUSTech has introduced 26 innovative and entrepreneurial talents from the Plan and 46 experts from the Recruitment Program for Young Professionals, accounting for more than 40% of those in Shenzhen by April, 2016. He expected closer cooperation in wider fields between more experts of the Plan and SUSTech, a young university attaching great importance to the development of its faculty with the spirit of innovation and reform in its blood.

At the symposium, Prof. Zhang Xumu, Chair of Department of Chemistry, Prof. Sun Xiaowei, Executive Dean of Engineering School, and other scholars had academic exchanges with the experts from the Plan in different fields and explored the possibility of further cooperation.

Shen Wei, Secretary-General of the South Startup Service Center, highly praised the environment for innovation and entrepreneurship at SUSTech and hoped that both sides could promote exchanges among hi-tech talents between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and further the regular cooperation between SUSTech and the Center.
