On 27th July, Times Higher Education (THE) released it’s the Young University Rankings, in which Southern University of Science and Technology debuted as the highest ranked mainland Chinese university. With a rank of 55th in the world, this is the first time a mainland Chinese university has entered the top 100 of this ranking, and is the best position achieved by a mainland Chinese university.
This year is the eighth year of the THE Young University Rankings, which lists universities that are 50 years old or younger. The 2019 ranking includes 351 universities from 60 countries. The rankings are based on performance indicators such as teaching, research, citations and international outlook. The major difference from their World University Ranking is that the weightings are adjusted to reduce the impact of reputation. This reflects the mission of young universities.
