Academician Chen giving a lecture

In 2014, Prof. Chen Xianhui, together with Academician Zhao Zhongxian from Institute of Physics at Chinese Academy of Sciences, was awarded the first prize of State Natural Science Award for their outstanding contribution to the discovery of iron-based high-temperature superconductor above 40k and research on its basic physical properties. In 2015, he became the first scientist in China’s mainland to win Bernd T. Matthias Prize and was appointed as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, he works as Director of the Key Laboratory of Strongly-Coupled Quantum Matter Physics at Chinese Academy of Sciences.

During the lecture, Academician Chen gave detailed introduction to the definition, categorization, basic properties, discovery, and history of superconductor, which enabled students to have a direct understanding of superconductor. After explaining two challenges faced by researches on superconductor, he looked into the prospects of superconductor and attached great value to the research on room-temperature superconductor.
