In the morning of October 25, 2016, the conference was convened to announce the decision about the appointment to Vice Chairman of University Council in the Southern University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as SUSTech). Approved by CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Li Fengliang was appointed as Vice Chairman of University Council of SUSTech. Qiu Haohang, Deputy Director-General of Organization Department of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Guo Yurong, Chairwoman of University Council of SUSTech, presided over the conference.

In the conference, Cai Chunhui, Deputy Chief of the Office of Personnel III in Organization Department of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, announced the document about appointing Li Fengliang as Vice Chairman of University Council of SUSTech.

In the conference, Li Fengliang was newly appointed as Vice Chairman of University Council of SUSTech and delivered a speech. He expressed he would uphold and obey the decision of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee. Firstly, harbor gratitude to the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and never forget lofty ideal. SUSTech was in the most critical time of building a high-level research university. After taking office, he would comply with the requirements of Provincial and CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and work hard with the leadership of Chairwoman of University Council of SUSTech. Secondly, keep a proper position and fulfill responsibilities conscientiously. He would further study, get familiar with university culture and take initiative in communicating with its faculty and students. He would also adhere to all decisions of University Council and spare no effort to complete all assigned work with due diligence. Thirdly, keep clean and self-disciplined and never break underlying principles. He would continue study and thinking, carry forward the spirit of seeking truth and being pragmatic. He would try to be clean and diligent and insist on reform and innovation and be strict with himself, taking the lead to compliance with all regulations issued by the central and local governments. In adherence to down-to-earth work style and conscientious attitude, he would join hands with the vast majority of faculty and students to make contribution to scientific development and great-leap-forward progress of SUSTech through unremitting endeavor.

In the conference, Qiu Haohang delivered a speech. At first, he, on behalf of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, spoke highly of the work carried out by incumbent leadership of SUSTech. He remarked the decision about the appointment to Vice Chairman of University Council was based on careful deliberation of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, which satisfied the demand of SUSTech development and fully reflected the Municipal Committee was greatly concerned about the construction of SUSTech leadership and cadre team. Shenzhen Municipal Committee mobilized all forces to forge SUSTech into an international and innovative research university, which shouldered the great mission of taking the lead to higher education reform in China. The appointment was to meet the demand of discipline construction and long-term development of SUSTech. On one hand, it reflected CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee had strong faith in Li Fengliang. On the other, it injected new blood to SUSTech leadership, which was conducive to the optimization of leadership structure. He also recognized SUSTech’s leading role and outstanding contribution to talent raising, education reform and top-notch talent introduction in Shenzhen Municipality and even across the whole nation. SUSTech gave full scope to its tolerance and eagerness in the introduction of talents, which proved its leading role in higher education reform and gradually developed as a unique feature for its talent raising and introduction.

In the conference, Chen Shiyi, President of SUSTech, delivered a speech. He remarked SUSTech lived up to expectation from all walks of life and made great achievements with the wise leadership of Municipal Committee and Government. For the present, SUSTech has been in the critical time of promoting discipline construction, improving education quality and research level, and enhancing talent introduction. All tasks above-mentioned were very challenging. He, on behalf of university leadership, faculty and students, upheld the decision of Municipal Committee, and expressed warmest welcome to Li Fengliang. He said the appointment fully reflected Municipal Committee and Government had great care and strong support for SUSTech development. With the wise leadership of Guangdong Provincial Government, Shenzhen Municipal Committee and University Council, SUSTech leadership would definitely unite the faculty and all students to insist on reform and innovation, keep down-to-earth and accelerate development for the purpose of constantly pushing forward the practice of Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and making contribution to great-leap-forward progress of SUSTech.

In the conference, Guo Yurong delivered a speech. She expressed that SUSTech showed great momentum in development. The appointment of Li Fengliang as Vice Chairman of University Council further supplemented the leadership and catalyzed the rapid development of SUSTech. She said Li Fengliang had worked in universities for long and hoped he could give full scope to his rich experience and management capabilities and joined hands with others to make constant progress and push all work of SUSTech to a new level. She was convinced that with the wise leadership and great support of Provincial Committee and Government, Municipal Committee and Government, all superior authorities and University Council, SUSTech leadership were bound to function like an engine and work alongside with the faculty and students to forging SUSTech into a top-tier international university in China.
