Conrad Gilliam, Dean of Basic Science, UChicago, visits SUSTech

On the afternoon of April 22, 2016, Conrad Gilliam, Dean of Basic Science, Division of Biological Sciences and the Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago (UChicago), visited Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). The two sides held talks on cooperation in university running, joint training, research exchange and international educational cooperation programs in fields such as biology and medicine. Chen Shiyi, President of SUSTech, met with the guests. Vice President Wu Chuanyue, Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun, as well as heads of the Department of Biology, the Office of Global Engagement, the Graduate School and the Assets Management Company exchanged ideas with the guests.

At the meeting, Wu welcomed the delegation led by Gilliam, introducing SUSTech’s orientation, schools and departments, faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate training, as well as the overall situation of medical school preparation. Lu elaborated on SUSTech’s international cooperation and student exchange, especially medical cooperation.

Gilliam introduced the basic situation of research and postgraduate education at the Biological Sciences Division, UChicago. Located in Shenzhen, SUSTech enjoys superior location, is rational in disciplinary setting and has huge potential, said him, adding that the two universities can explore all-round cooperation in medical and characteristic biological fields based on respective features and advantages, including cooperation in university running, joint training of postgraduates, research exchange, student exchange, etc.

Following the meeting, the delegation visited the campus of SUSTech.

Gilliam was accompanied by heads of the Shenzhen Roizman International Research Institute of Translational Medicine, the Division of Higher Education, Shenzhen Bureau of Education and the Economic Service Bureau of Dapeng New Area.
