On December 7, 2016, Jon Frampton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham (UoB), visited Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to discuss graduate education cooperation. Chen Shiyi, President of SUSTech, met with Frampton. Tang Tao, Vice President of SUSTech, as well as heads of the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Graduate School, SUSTech held a meeting with the delegation led by Frampton.
During the visit, the scholars from UoB held academic discussions on common concerns with the Department of Biology and the Department of Chemistry, SUSTech.
Background
Founded in 1900, the University of Birmingham (UoB) is a British public research university, a top British university, one of the world top 100 universities and six “red brick universities”, as well as a founding member of the Russel Group of renowned British universities, M5 Universities and “Universitas 21” (an international university organization). UoB has five colleges-Arts and Law, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Life and Environmental Sciences, Medical and Dental Sciences, and Social Sciences. There are currently some 30,000 full-time students in UoB, including some 18,000 undergraduates. Chinese students account for more than five percent of all students in the university.
