The city of Shenzhen celebrated Teachers’ Day on September 10th, with several scholars at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) being recognized for their contributions to the city’s educational development.
At a ceremony for Teachers’ Day, SUSTech President Chen Shiyi was named “Pioneer of Shenzhen’s education reform”, and is the only educator who has won this honor among Shenzhen’s universities. He received this award and was witnessed by the city’s government leadership such as Shenzhen Mayor Chen Rugui, Standing Committee Director Luo Wenzhi and Shenzhen CPPCC Chairman Dai Beifang all attended this glittering ceremony.
The ceremony commended Shenzhen’s educational pioneers of reform, along with the best teachers, principals/presidents, scholars and top education institutions across the city.
President Chen Shiyi spoke as the winner of the “Pioneer of Shenzhen’s educational reform.” He talked about how the recent Statement by the State Council would allow for the continued innovation of higher education in Shenzhen. SUSTech would continue to take advantage of its roots in Shenzhen, as SUSTech is imbued with the same innovative genes as Shenzhen. SUSTech would continue to push boundaries in its pursuit of excellence, and would provide support for Shenzhen’s development under the Statement.
SUSTech would take advantage of this historic opportunity to support Shenzhen and further promote the development of universities throughout Shenzhen. President Chen Shiyi affirmed SUSTech’s commitment to the development of the Greater Bay Area, and support the progress of Shenzhen under the State Council Statement.
In addition, several SUSTech scholars were recognized for their outstanding pedagogical performances. Among them, Chemistry Associate Professor Xu Zongxiang and Mathematics Professor Chen Yimao were named “Excellent Teachers.” Global Engagement Office Director Zheng Chunmiao and Executive Deputy Dean of Zhixin College Wang Lingjun were both named “Advanced Educators.” Shude College Counselor Li Siming was named “Excellent Class Teacher.” The Department of Physics has also been rated as an “advanced unit.”
