SUSTech to build clinical teaching hospital with Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences

Friday 11th October saw Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Cancer Hospital (CAMS Cancer Hospital) Shenzhen Center sign an agreement to jointly build the SUSTech Clinical Teaching Hospital. SUSTech President Chen Shiyi and University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang attended the signing ceremony with CAMS Cancer Hospital Dean He Jie and Health Commission of Shenzhen Director Luo Lexuan. High-ranking officials from SUSTech, the CAMS Cancer Hospital Shenzhen Center and the Health Commission of Shenzhen were also in attendance.

SUSTech President Chen Shiyi signed the agreement with CAMS Cancer Hospital Shenzhen Center President Wang Lvhua, witnessed by representatives of both sides and the Health Commission of Shenzhen. Under the agreement, both sides will establish a cooperative partnership of mutual support, mutual benefit and common development, and at a new starting point, promote the strong combination of high-quality medical resources and educational resources, which will bring new opportunities for the development of medical disciplines.

CAMS Cancer Hospital Dean He Jie said that the cooperation sides has important practical & historical significance, and it is hoped that the establishment of the SUSTech Clinical Teaching Hospital will raise the medical service level, clinical teaching quality and scientific research level of the cancer hospital. At the same time, the high-quality clinical medical resources can also assist the development of the SUSTech School of Medicine and its medical disciplines. Both sides will work together to cultivate medical talents to promote the further improvement of Shenzhen’s healthcare for the benefit of its citizens.

SUSTech President Chen Shiyi agreed, thanking all walks of life for their support for the development of SUSTech. He briefed the audience about the progress of the development of the School of Medicine, saying that SUSTech will take this opportunity to further promote deep-level cooperation and give full play of the technical, scientific, research and management advantages available from both sides. President Chen Shiyi added that the development of the SUSTech Clinical Teaching Hospital would lead to an improved level of cancer education and health care across Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area.

Health Commission of Shenzhen Director Luo Lexuan added that clinical teaching hospitals provide an important platform for training medical personnel. Both sides will promote the reform & innovation of the medical personnel training system, providing support for the development of the benchmark of “people’s livelihood and happiness.”
