The SUSTech Student Congress was recently held in the library’s 110 lecture hall. Li Fengliang, vice-chairperson of the university, as well as the Student Labour Department, the University Committee and the Students Colleges attended the event.

Speech by Li Fengliang

The conference kicked off with a majestic hearing of the national anthem. Li Fengliang followed with a speech, during which he talked about how in recent years the focus of the university has been on the maintenance of student rights and interests, to develop student activities and various other aspects of the student life in the university. He said that he hoped the students will always remember the original spirit: that they are inspirational talent, to hold virtue as first; to have the courage to lead, and to actively contribute to the Chinese nation’s development and social progress.

In 2017 SUSTech students won the title of “Outstanding Student Union of Guangdong Province”, and Li Yuanzhi, member of the Standing Committee of the Students’ Congress, won the title of “Outstanding Student Cadre of Guangdong Province”.

At the meeting, the former president of the Executive Students Committee Xu Zihao read the “SUSTech Students in Recognition of the Decision”, which covered the student union’s outstanding performance and individual recognition. Among them, Li Shuang and 10 other students won the “Outstanding Student Union Cadres” title, Yin Yina and 15 others won the “Outstanding Student Union Officer” title and Tian Kuan and four others won the “Outstanding Student Representative” title.

Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of SUSTech students Zhang Yi then took to the stage to talk to all students about the “SUSTech Student Work Report”, and Executive Committee Secretary Li Shuang then read out the “Style of Study Proposal”.

Voting

After the General Assembly voted through the “SUSTech Student Constitution amendments”, the revised “SUSTech Student Union” came into effect.

The staff of the conference read out the “Election Method for the Students Congress of SUSTech”, the “List of Candidates and Counters of the Students’ Congress of SUSTech”, the “Candidate List of the Chairman of the Executive Committee of SUSTech” and the “List of Candidates for Members of the Standing Committee of the University Student Congress “. In accordance with the procedures, all students voted for the election of the SUSTech Student Union Executive Committee, SUSTech Student Standing Committee and the SUSTech Student Union staff representatives.

Li Yuanzhi, chairman of the Standing Committee of SUSTech University Student Congress, announced the election results to the president of the Congress. The students elected the chairman of the Executive Committee of the Students’ Congress, and the members of the Standing Committee of Students’ Representatives, with Hong Yang and Hao Tian elected as representatives of the Student Union.

During the meeting, the university invited people to participate in a national security education special report, to help students understand the international situation, and establish and cultivate national security awareness.
