Materials Science holds its strategic seminar

Over the weekend, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) held its annual strategic seminar. College of Engineering Dean Xu Zhenghe, Department of Physics Head He Jiaqing, College of Engineering Deputy Dean Wang Hong, MSE Head Cheng Xin attended the meeting with MSE faculty members, engineers, researchers and students. The MSE Strategic Steering Committee also came to the strategic seminar, representing high-quality scholars and experts in materials science & academia.

At the start of the strategic seminar, College of Engineering Dean Xu Zhenghe thanked everyone for attending the seminar and hoped that the experts & scholars would assist the Department in heading towards the next level. MSE Head Cheng Xin briefed the meeting on the work of the Department of the last 12 months. Chair Professor Xu Baomin spoke about the direction of postgraduate education within the Department while Professor Ye Fei introduced the 2019 undergraduate training work.

The MSE Strategic Steering Committee provided a series of suggestions about the development of the Department in a wide range of areas and encouraged faculty members to be active participants in academic conferences. They specified the importance of exchanging views with their colleagues across China and around the world, in order to improve themselves and the Department.

In the afternoon session, Professor Xiang Xiaodong talked about the opportunities arising from the materials science discipline for SUSTech, before several keynote speeches were given by other faculty members. The MSE Strategic Steering Committee encouraged everyone to continue their research and conduct their research.

Students and teachers talked to the MSE Strategic Steering Committee on the second day of the strategic seminar, in order to understand their opinions. The MSE Strategic Steering Committee discussed several issues at the end of the seminar, summarizing the future development opportunities for the Department.
