In recent days, a team of students from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was announced as national runners-up and Guangdong provincial winners of the Texas Instruments (TI) Cup National University Student Electronic Design Competition (TI Cup). Three other SUSTech teams claimed second prizes, with a further four teams earning third prizes.
Twelve teams from SUSTech participated in the competition under the guidance of EEE Director Sun Xiaowei. Teaching engineers Wang Xiaojing and Zhang Lijun assisted the students in devoting themselves to the contest. Throughout the TI Cup, the students discussed technical solutions, designed their work and wrote design reports.
EEE has always worked hard to cultivate its student’s practical skills. The TI Cup is an example of students putting their theoretical knowledge into practice. Students completing the “Analog Circuit Experiment” and the “Digital Circuit Experiment” classes took part in the TI Cup to promote their applied knowledge. Students also gain a better understanding of engineering design.
Both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry & Information Technology sponsor the TI Cup, in conjunction with Texas Instruments. It runs every odd year, with the first year of competition taking place in 1997. Before this year, SUSTech has earned a national second prize, a provincial first prize, two 2nd prizes, two 3rd prizes, and one successful entry prize.
