Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has had three undergraduate disciplines selected into the 2019 Guangdong list of disciplines for priority development by the Guangdong Provincial Education Department. This recent announcement denotes the first batch of undergraduate subjects.

The specific disciplines are communications engineering (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering), materials science and engineering (Department of Materials Science and Engineering), and environmental science and engineering (School of Environmental Science and Engineering).

SUSTech will seize this opportunity to build a Guangdong provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction point. It will continue to enhance the development of its undergraduate major in line with professional and industry requirements. SUSTech is firmly committed to the development of its talent pipelines and will persist in its innovative practices in undergraduate education.

The Ministry of Education is due to launch its plan for the development for first-class undergraduate disciplines at both the national and provincial level. It will run over three years and promote the development of emerging engineering, new medicine, and new liberal arts across the country.
