On December 18, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) dispatched the four lead singers of the SUSTech Choir to perform “All The Way South,” at the Top Ten Golden Melody Awards, before receiving their award for the song.

“All the Way South” salutes the SUSTech community as part of the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. The Communications and Public Relations Office worked with the Art Center to plan and produce the song. Shenzhen musician Wang Jun tailored the song whose lyrics were inspired by a poem written by SUSTech President Chen Shiyi for national college entrance examination candidates.

The song paints a vivid picture of a young university full of vigor, stacked with talented young men & women who have come “all the way south” to seek their dreams and contribute to society. The incorporation of visual imagery like Tanglang Mountain and the Greater Bay Area provides a mental backdrop to the song. The melodic song describes a campus vibrant with bird song and a narrative telling the story of those choosing to come “all the way south.”
