Update on the 2019-nCoV situation
| 02/04/2020

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) continues to monitor the evolving novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) situation in mainland China and around the world. It will continue to provide support and advice for the entire SUSTech community. SUSTech has prioritized the wellbeing of everyone at SUSTech while minimizing disruption to our students’ education.

SUSTech has been following and will continue to follow the expert advice of national, provincial, and municipal health departments as they relate to 2019-nCoV. SUSTech is also taking advice from its own Working Group, which formed last week.

SUSTech continues to work with students and staff impacted by this on-going situation, understanding the complexities involved across the country and around the world. Online classes for general education courses from the science and engineering modules will start on February 10. All other courses will be ready for online teaching from February 17.

Following the advice of government departments, students can return to campus on February 24 and 25. The first day of the spring semester is tentatively scheduled for February 26. Administrative units will resume business from February 10, with reduced levels of service where required.

SUSTech understands that this is a concerning time for the entire University community. There are many teams across SUSTech working hard to maintain the health and safety across campus while planning for the future. The Working Group, led by Council Chairperson Guo Yurong and President Chen Shiyi, meet regularly to consider new developments that impact the SUSTech community and its operations.

Faculty members, staff, and students are required to follow provincial and university regulations regarding self-isolation and quarantine if they are returning to Shenzhen from Hubei Province.

The Teaching Affairs Office, Graduate School, and Student Affairs Office will continue to update all students as new information becomes available. Updates will be posted to the SUSTech website and WeChat page as appropriate, and by bulk email as necessary.
