SUSTech welcomes MoE Higher Education Director to campus

On June 3, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed a Ministry of Education (MoE) delegation led by Higher Education Director Yan WU to campus.

The MoE delegation was met by President Shiyi CHEN, University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO, University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI, Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG, and Acting Vice President Yusheng ZHAO. The MoE delegation was joined by representatives of the Guangdong Provincial Education Department and the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau.

President Shiyi CHEN and University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO welcomed Director Yan WU and the MoE Delegation to SUSTech. They thanked the MoE and the Higher Education Department for their on-going support for the development of SUSTech.

Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG gave an in-depth report into SUSTech’s development in recent years. School of System Design and Intelligent Manufacturing (SDIM) Dean Jingshen WU discussed the progress being made in emerging engineering at SUSTech.

Chairperson Yurong GUO thanked the delegation for returning to SUSTech, reflecting their interest in the growth and progress of SUSTech. She highlighted SUSTech’s mission of becoming a world-class research university, rooted in China as it explores the development of innovative talent pipeline models. As part of our tenth anniversary, SUSTech will never forget its original mission of reform and innovation in higher education for China.

President Shiyi CHEN provided a briefing on the critical work done during the COVID-19 outbreak to protect the SUSTech community. He spoke about SUSTech’s development in terms of its support for the country, the region, and the city. SUSTech has focused on the development of its talent pipelines and scientific research work. It will cultivate the innovative leaders for the new era as SUSTech builds a world-class research university, rooted in China.

MoE Higher Education Director Yan WU affirmed the development of higher education through the original mission of SUSTech. The development of SUSTech will further promote innovation in a wide variety of areas. Director Yan WU pointed out that the next ten years for SUSTech will focus on its emerging engineering and its School of Medicine. SUSTech should face these challenges to develop new educational ideas as part of its fundamental mission of higher education reform and innovation.
