Class of 2020 reflects on first and last days at SUSTech

As the Class of 2020 enjoys its commencement ceremony this evening, members of the graduating class reminisce on the first and last days on campus, spread from all across mainland China.

Yi LIU, Chongqing

When I first came to SUSTech, I think this is a very new university, and teachers are very concerned about the life of first-year students. During my four years at SUSTech, the campus is changing with each passing day, and everything is becoming better and better. As I am about to leave SUSTech, I feel sad to leave my classmates and teachers who I’ve been working with for four years. Still, I am full of expectations for the challenges that await me. I hope that I can head further along the academic path while having a bigger impact on people’s lives through my scientific research. I trust that SUSTech will continue to develop and eventually become the world’s top university.

Mengxia YU, Fujian Province

After taking the train to Shenzhen, I was met at the subway by friendly volunteers that helped me all the way to the dorms. Everyone was so helpful. I have been able to take advantage of so many opportunities within EEE over the last four years that have been, in part, inspired by my personal interests. I hope that SUSTech can continue to grow and contribute to the development of society. On a personal level, I’m hoping to solve some of the big challenges behind smart IoT fashion as part of my doctoral studies.

Jiahua ZHAO, Guangxi Province

On my first day in SUSTech, I was attracted by the clean and beautiful campus environment. The combination of clear water and green mountains with buildings made me feel comfortable. In my opinion, the biggest change of SUSTech in the past four years is the increasing campus area and the number of new buildings. I feel very excited and proud, after four years of study, I can finally start from SUSTech go to the world, continue the legend of SUSTechers. I hope that I can make more breakthroughs in professional fields and make my own contribution to the relevant research fields in China. I also hope that there will be more outstanding talents and achievements in SUSTech in the future. Today I am proud of SUSTech, tomorrow SUSTech will be proud of me!

 Yanchu ZHAO, Sichuan Province

I remember arriving here on a rainy August day and moving into the dorms. Classes came around pretty quickly, and I was able to enjoy lots of different classes. SUSTech has grown a lot while I’ve been here, and I have been able to take advantage of many opportunities while being here. There are just so many opportunities for SUSTechers, and they keep growing. While I’m going to miss being here, I’m looking forward to my future here in Shenzhen. I’m sure that SUSTech will continue to develop into a powerhouse of an institution.

Wanning LIAO, Zhejiang Province

On the first day, I came here with my parents and left the baggage in the sports center. While we don’t have time to visit the campus, a bus picked me up and took me to military training as part of the freshmen orientation. SUSTech now has more and more outstanding faculty members, many more buildings obviously, and most importantly, we have more diversified but excellent students. I believe that my university will be a more open and more inclusive ivory tower. I hope that I can do the things I love and enjoy to do in the future
