SUSTech holds the Fifth Spring Couplet Calligraphy Festival

On January 8, 2021, the Fifth Couplets Writing Activity was held at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Jing LI, Chairman of Shenzhen Calligraphers Association, Vice Chairmen of the Association, senior leaders from other universities in Shenzhen, and SUSTech’s students and faculty members attended the event.

Famous calligraphers, faculty,members and students gathered in front of the Banyan Tree (one of SUSTech’s landmarks), welcoming the New Year by writing and sending couplets. Faculty and students sent best wishes to each other, and other people at the event were also encouraged to join in.

Fengliang LI, University Council Vice Chairperson of SUSTech, delivered a speech at the event and expressed his gratitude for the great support provided by relevant cultural departments. He noted that the activity, as a symbol of SUSTech’s campus culture, has played a significant role for the University to carry forward traditional Chinese culture and to promote aesthetic and cultural education. In 2021, SUSTech will make more efforts and build SUSTech into a world-famous university.

Jing LI, Chairman of Shenzhen Calligraphers Association, said that the activity enabled students and faculty to appreciate the charm and beauty of traditional Chinese arts and encouraged them to share their own contributions to the inheritance and development of traditional culture in Shenzhen.

There was an air of festivity and jubilation at the event. Calligraphers wrote Spring Festival couplets, craftsmen put on a clay sculpture show, and students sent gifts and cards. The activities were warmly welcomed among the students and faculty.
