2021 RunSUSTech in New Year and founding ceremony of SUSTech Running Association held

On January 30, the 2021 RunSUSTech in New Year and founding ceremony of the SUSTech Running Association were held on campus. SUSTech Chairperson Yurong GUO, Vice-Chairperson, and Labor Union Chairman Fengliang LI attended the ceremony, and more than 100 SUSTech members participated in the event.

As part of the ceremony, Chairperson Yurong GUO awarded the flag to the SUSTech Running Association (“The Association”). The Association is a sports association formed by the faculty and staff of SUSTech. It aims to organize the members of SUSTech to exercise, promote the spirit of sports, and foster good communication culture for the community members.

Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI congratulated the establishment of the Association. He said that this year many faculty members and staff stay in Shenzhen for the Spring Festival holiday, and this event brings vitality to campus during the winter vacation.

After a simple warm-up exercise, the referee fired his gun, and the running athletes began running.

This event has 6.5km and 12km races. All participants start from the Green Pine Stadium, run around the campus from the College of Engineering Building to Taizhou Building, from Gate Baseball Stadium, Sports Center to the Guesthouse.

Cosimo Bambi from the Department of Physics and Luo LEI from the Office of Go Global won the men’s 12 km and 6.5 km championship. Yang LIU from the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering and Yilin XIE from the Department of Mathematics won the women’s 12km and 6.5km race.

The champion of men’s 12 km, Cosimo Bambi, is from Italy. He said that the weather was excellent. He was lucky and happy to join this event on campus.

The champion of men’s 6.5 km Luo LEI shared his experience. He said that it was a different experience to run with colleagues on campus and discover the campus’s charm while running.

This event is hosted by the Trade Union of SUSTech and co-hosted by the Center for Physical Education and the SUSTech Running Association.
