On the afternoon of January 28, 2021, Yurong GUO, University Council Chairperson of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), President Qikun XUE, and heads of various departments visited Guangming District to hold discussions and exchange ideas with Sheng LIU, Party Secretary of Guangming District, Ying CAI, Guangming District Mayor, and Gaoke YAO, Deputy District Mayor.

Sheng LIU introduced the current state of affairs of Guangming District and the construction of Guangming Science City, which SUSTech has assisted with some scientific projects. He said that Guangming Science City will further strengthen their cooperation with SUSTech by actively exploring channels for the development of scientific and technological innovation.

Mayor Ying CAI said that Guangming District would fully support and co-operate with the construction of large scale scientific facility. She hopes to further strengthen their cooperation with SUSTech and form a strong connection between Guangming Science City and the international scientific community with the assistance of SUSTech.

Yurong GUO said that the Guangming Science City is a key project in Guangming District and Shenzhen. The development of SUSTech has always been closely linked with the development of the city, and the University will strengthen its cooperation with the District in the construction of this project and make greater contributions to society.

President Qikun XUE said that the University will provide full support in terms of human resources, academic research, and international engagement, towards the development of Guangming Science City. He put forward some suggestions for the project and hopes that it will develop into a world-class science city.

Yusheng ZHAO, Acting Vice President and Dean of the Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, introduced SUSTech’s current position in the construction of scientific installations at Guangming Science City. Xueming YANG, Dean of the College of Science, and Xiaodong XIANG, Chair Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), introduced their various projects.

After the meeting, Qikun XUE, Yurong GUO, and other members of SUSTech visited the exhibition hall of the Left Bank Science and Technology Park and Lihu Park to explore the current installations taking place.

Susheng WANG, Director of the Planning and Development Department, Siqi CHEN, Director of the Office of Party Affairs and Administration, and heads of the Guangming District Development and Reform Bureau also attended the event.
