Reading comforts the soul

At the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), books are a fundamental part of students’ education. Without them, the educational process would be soulless. They are the pathway to knowledge and creative vision. But they aren’t just essential for students. They are an integral part of an educator’s daily life too.

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”
– Cicero

On-campus, there are multiple locations where one can de-stress and immerse themselves inside a book for hours without notice of time that has passed by. These include the two primary libraries on campus, Yidan and Lynn Library, which are fitted with top-class facilities, thousands of books, and an abundance of space to accommodate the needs of all its members.

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”
– Margaret Fuller

“The library is inhabited by spirits that come out of the pages at night.”
– Isabel Allende

Whether you are studying for an exam, catching up on the latest edition by your favorite author, or looking to pass away some time while waiting for a friend, reading is a hobby that is very hard to match. Indulging in some light reading is one of the best approaches to stimulate the intellectual inside you. Research shows that reading lowers blood pressure and heart rate, reduces stress while also improving your vocabulary and comprehension skills.

So, next time you find yourself with a book in your hand or have some downtime, make sure to find one of our prime locations on campus. It can be on a bench in the park, one of the libraries, or multiple rooms that are available for everyone to use.
