On 15th February, Times Higher Education (THE) released its THE Young University Rankings 2022. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) maintains its position as the best young university in mainland China, ranking 13th in the world this year. This is up from 26th in 2021 and represents a new high for SUSTech in the global rankings.
It is the fourth time that SUSTech has been ranked in the Young University Rankings, which includes 539 universities from 74 countries and territories. SUSTech topped the charts across Teaching, Research, Citations, and Industry Income in mainland China.
In 2019, SUSTech entered THE’s Young University Rankings for the first time and was ranked 55th. Now, a mere three years later, the University has been ranked 13th in the world, demonstrating “Shenzhen Speed” and the leapfrog development of universities in the new era.
The THE Young University Rankings methodology is based on five performance indicators: teaching (30%), research (30%), citations (30%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry income (2.5%). It is based on the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship THE World University Rankings, but the weightings have been adjusted to give less weight to reputation.
