On May 28, 2022, the finals of the first Phoenix Tree Campus Entrepreneurship Star Competition was held at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Convention Center.
Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson of SUSTech and Chairman of the Trade Union, and heads of relevant departments attended the finals.
Vice-Chairperson ZHANG noted that the competition is an opportunity for students to display their innovation and entrepreneurship, which reflects the characteristics of the University’s pillars of, “Research, Innovation, Entrepreneurship”. He added it will play an important role in the growth of innovative and entrepreneurial talents in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and contribute to the development of the region.
The competition included industry professionals from investment institutions, scientific research institutes, technology companies, finance, law firms, and other industries to serve as judges, with the various stages of the competition streamed and broadcasted live online. A total of 110 teams participated in the competition, with 14 teams advancing to the finals.
It was divided into two groups, the student group and the graduate group, and consisted of four categories: new-generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, materials and energy, and biopharmaceuticals. It adopted a “6+4” model, which included six minutes of project demonstrations and four minutes of questions from the judges.
The “Ultrasonic Bone Knife Industry-University-Research Team” and “Resource Regeneration New Force Team” won the first prize in the student and graduate groups, respectively, and 12 other projects won the second and third prizes, respectively.
The Phoenix Tree Campus Entrepreneurship Star Competition was sponsored by the National Demonstration Base for Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the SUSTech Science Park. It was jointly organized by the SUSTech Asset Management Co., Ltd. and the Office of Students Affairs.
The competition aims to provide a platform to cultivate and enhance students’ innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and capabilities through the “Entrepreneurship Training Camp + Entrepreneurship Display + Post-Competition Practice” model.
