On September 25, 2022, the awarding ceremony of the first Ocean Elite Scholarship from the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering (OSE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was held on campus.

The ceremony announced the list of recipients of the Ocean Elite Scholarship. In total, 46 students were awarded the scholarship.

The awarding panel of faculty members and enterprise leaders congratulated the students and encouraged them to study hard and make great contributions to the development of ocean science, aspire to be future leaders, and develop Shenzhen into an international ocean city.

Jiayi YANG, an undergraduate student and one of the scholarship recipients, thanked the University and various enterprises on behalf of all the recipients for their continued support.

Members from SUSTech that partook in the ceremony included Qin YE, Secretary-General of the SUSTech Education Foundation, Xiping YU, Vice Provost and Director of the Office of Teaching Affairs, Yongshun CHEN, Dean of the Department of OSE, and Qingsong LIU & Jian LIN, Chair Professors of the Department of OSE.

Several leaders from enterprises also took part in the event in the form of in-person and virtually, including Yongxin WANG, General Manager of China Merchants Energy Transportation Co., Ltd., Xiaoxi ZHANG, General Manager of Huaguang Shipping Management (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Jiapei FENG, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, Weisheng ZHU, President of Shenzhen Langcheng Technology Co., Ltd., Bing HU, Chairman of Shenzhen Future Technology Development Co., Ltd., Chun XU, General Manager of Equator Fund, and Ronghui YANG, Director of the Shenzhen Minghua Training Center.

The Department of OSE at SUSTech has set up the Ocean Elite Scholarship in conjunction with various enterprises to encourage and support outstanding ocean science undergraduates, strengthen their cultivation of basic disciplines and innovative capabilities, and enhance their awareness of ocean science.
