On January 10, 2023, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held its 2022 End-of-Year Review Meeting in the SUSTech Convention Center.

Fengliang LI, University Council Chairperson, Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, other members of the University’s leadership team, heads of various departments, and members of the annual assessment group attended the meeting.

In his remarks, President Qikun XUE expressed gratitude and praise to all the faculty members and staff who have worked hard throughout the last year. He summarized the University’s successes in 2022 in its party building, scientific research achievements, faculty recruitment, campus construction, student enrollment, and discipline construction.

He noted that 2022 was a year of extraordinary significance. The 20^th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) took place, and drew a blueprint for the country’s development over the next five years. Through studying the objectives and tasks set forth at the Congress, there is now a clear development philosophy for the next stage of the University.

In 2022, SUSTech was selected as a “Double First-Class” university, and it has entered a new stage of its development. President XUE said that 2023 is the first year after the 20^th National Congress of the CPC, and that the University would follow in serving the major regional and national development strategies and contributions to the country’s scientific and technological advances to social progress and economic growth.

He added that all departments should work together in building SUSTech into a world-class research university through implementing the University’s motto and the medium- and long-term development plan (335 strategy), cultivating top-notch talents, and improving the quality of talent training.

Various departments within the University reported on their work carried out last year, achievements, and plans for 2023.

Chairperson Fengliang LI also spoke at the meeting. He acknowledged the work achievements of each department in 2022 and thanked everyone at the University for their efforts throughout the year.

He noted that 2022 was a significant year with the holding of the 20^th National Congress of the CPC and SUSTech being added to the list of “Double First-Class” universities. But he also pointed out that it was an unusual year with continued challenges.

SUSTech has implemented the work requirements of the municipal and provincial party committees and promoted party building, talent training, scientific research, social services, and culture building. The University has also strengthened cooperation and exchanges with domestic and international universities, institutions, international organizations, and innovative enterprises.

Chairperson LI pointed out that 2023 will be the first year to implement the objectives of the 20^th National Congress of the CPC, and it is also a pivotal year for the University as it will hold the 2^nd CPC Congress of SUSTech, and make further strides in the development of SUSTech as a “Double First-Class” university.

He emphasized that everyone at SUSTech should continue to shoulder greater responsibilities and make important contributions to realize more outstanding achievements.
