On April 7, 2023, the Inauguration Ceremony of the College of Science Building and Exhibition of the College’s Five-Year Achievements was held in the College of Science Building at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, other members of the University’s leadership team, heads of departments, administrative units, and representatives of faculty members and students also attended the ceremony.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Jiaqing HE, Secretary of the Party Committee and Associate Dean of the College of Science.

President Qikun XUE congratulated the faculty members and students of the College of Science and expressed his gratitude to people from all walks of life who worked hard for the construction of the building.

He said that since its establishment, the College of Science has adhered to the spirit of exploration and innovation, and has made remarkable achievements over the past five years, which has made outstanding contributions to the leapfrog development of SUSTech.

President XUE said that 2023 is the first year to implement the objectives of the 20^th National Congress of the CPC, and is also a pivotal year for SUSTech to develop as a “Double First-Class” university.

President XUE hopes the College of Science will make full use of the various spaces of the building, innovate the talent training model, strengthen academic exchanges with domestic and international universities, and carry out cutting-edge research, which will contribute to building SUSTech into a world-class research university.

Xueming YANG, Vice President and Dean of the College of Science, said that with the support of the University and the joint efforts of everyone at the College, significant progress has been made in the work of each department.

He shared his thoughts on the College and noted that it should improve high-level teaching work, especially undergraduate education and research, and formulate training programs to cultivate more top-notch talents.

Focused on basic sciences and related applied sciences and technologies, Vice President YANG added that the College should continue to strengthen and make greater breakthroughs in basic scientific research, and contribute to the country’s high-level scientific and technological development.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening internal management, providing guarantees for college teaching and scientific research, and promoting the high-quality development of the University.

Hongwei FANG, Vice President and Provost of SUSTech, on behalf of the University, handed over the “Key of the College of Science Building” to Xueming YANG.

President XUE officially announced the launching of the College of Science building. The University’s leadership, faculty members, and heads of related departments were also present at the opening ceremony of the building.

After the ceremony, the guests visited the five-year achievement exhibition of the College of Science.
