SUSTech records best performance at 17th China University Taekwondo Championships

The 17th China University Taekwondo Championships, organized by the Federation of University Sport of China (FUSC), was recently held in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province.

More than 2,000 athletes and coaches from 185 universities and colleges nationwide participated in the competition.

The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) taekwondo team included three coaches, Yang ZHAO, Bo BAI, and Yang LU, and seven athletes. Among them, Jiewen MO took first place in the women’s 53kg weight class in Group A, Yiman PENG placed third in the women’s 57kg weight class in Group A, and Qizhen WANG finished in fifth place in the men’s +87 kg weight class in Group A.

In terms of team awards, SUSTech’s women’s team took fifth place in Group A, marking the best results of the University in the China University Taekwondo Championships.

The participating team members said that after this competition, they felt the importance of teamwork. The mutual encouragement and support of teammates and coaches before the competition kept them in good condition mentally and physically.

These achievements demonstrate the courage and unity of SUSTech students and strengthen exchanges between SUSTech and other universities, laying a solid foundation for the future progress and development of the University’s taekwondo team.
