From June 17 to 21, the 2023 Guangdong Provincial University Taekwondo Championships were held at the Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), with 666 athletes from 65 universities participating in the competition.

The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) taekwondo team included three coaches, Yang ZHAO, Bo BAI, and Yang LU, and 24 athletes.

In the individual competition, Jiewen MO took first place in the women’s 52kg weight class, Yiman PENG took first place in the women’s 58kg weight class, Zihao ZHANG took first place in the men’s 78kg weight class, Weitao YAN placed second in the men’s 78kg weight class, Yida DONG placed second in the men’s 60kg weight class, and Zishuo HUANG placed third in the men’s 66kg weight class.

In the team competition, SUSTech took first place in Group A. At this year’s championships, SUSTech took home five first prizes, three second prizes, one third prize, and nine fifth prizes, adding more honors to the University’s taekwondo team.

The success of the SUSTech taekwondo team demonstrates the desire and ambition of students at the University to challenge themselves and gain valuable experience, while also strengthening exchanges with other universities and laying a foundation for the future progress and development of the taekwondo team.
