SUSTech welcomes delegation from Nanjing University

On July 12, Tieniu TAN, Secretary of the CPC Nanjing University Committee and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Zhemin TAN, President of Nanjing University (NJU) and Academician of CAS, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

Members from the SUSTech leadership team that welcomed the guests for exchanges included Hong JIANG, University Council Chairperson, Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson, Wensheng YAO, University Council Vice-Chairperson, Chun LU, Vice President, and Hongwei FANG, Vice President and Provost.

Hong JIANG stated that NJU has had a significant impact on the history of China’s development of higher education, and she expects that the University will share its advanced experience and practices in the development of higher education.

She wishes that the two parties will strengthen cooperation and exchanges, and promote win-win development in university governance, innovative talent training, scientific research, and the construction of disciplines.

Tieniu TAN acknowledged the rapid and high-quality development of SUSTech since its establishment. As a new type of research university, he said that SUSTech “sets a new benchmark, blazes a new trail, and accumulates new knowledge” for higher education.

He summarized the “success equation”, highlighting that SUSTech has served the country through science and education, adhered to the goal of world-class development, and encouraged innovation.

Dr. TAN added that he looks forward to both universities joining hands and working together to make greater contributions to the development of high-level universities in the country.

In his remarks, NJU President Zhemin TAN also noted that SUSTech shoulders the mission of further exploring the future of higher education in China, and that the model of SUSTech is worthy of learning and referring.

Hongwei FANG gave a brief introduction of the development and running of SUSTech as both parties conducted in-depth exchanges on the cultivation of innovative talents, scientific research work, and other topics.

Tieniu TAN, Zhemin TAN, and their delegation were also given a tour of the University, visiting the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center and other locations on campus.
