On March 13, the Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the Seismological Bureau of Liaoning Province held a signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation agreement between both parties.

The ceremony, attended by Zhenyu YANG, Party Secretary and Director of the Seismological Bureau of Liaoning Province, and Xiaofei CHEN, Head of the Department of ESS and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), facilitated fruitful discussions and exchanges.

The discussion outlined several collaboration aspects, including innovation of seismological techniques, development of talents, facilitation of the Liaoning Provincial Disaster Management and Prevention program, as well as research on non-tectonic earthquakes.

This strategic partnership between the Department of ESS and the Seismological Bureau of Liaoning Province will allow both parties to explore each other’s expertise in technology, talents, and platforms. By joining such efforts, the experts will cooperate on projects like monitoring of non-tectonic seismic events, training scientific and technological talents, detecting the subsurface structures, providing technical services from a seismological aspect, and other potential programs with broad application potential. The overarching goal is to elevate contribution to earthquake risk reduction and seismic hazard prevention.
