On March 20, 2015, the preparation office of “UNESCO International Centre for Innovation in Higher Education (Shenzhen, China)”invited Professor Yang Wenming, the office chief of Shenzhen Polytechnic of Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences, to conduct a special training about “project management knowledge and processes”, as hosted by Teacher Jiang Kaijun of the Preparation Office.
Professor Yang systematically introduced the history, stages and life span of project management, which was formed since human civilization. Yang also proposed two hot issues of project management—strategy management and project management. And afterwards, by taking “boiling water to make tea” as an example, Professor Yang listed three schedule network diagrams to explain the meaning of learning project management. Yang also led out the factors of project (cost, objective and progress) and their relationship. Professor Yang then reported the five stages including initiation, planning, implementation, control and ending of project management with charts demonstrating the relationship among these five stages.
In addition, Professor Yang made comprehensive introduction and analysis about management of factors such as project scope, integration, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk and purchase; Yang particularly mentioned that the newly added content, management of project stakeholders, was also critical to the success of project. Six levels of project success (scope, cost, quality, progress, team satisfaction and customer satisfaction, each level was with one more indicator than the level before) were introduced as well. Project success included three criteria: the first one was punctuation; the second was the control of budget within the given scope; and third was the praise of quality from clients and users. Besides, the participants accurately positioned the level that the “center” had currently reached in order to make efforts to achieve a higher level.
In the interactive session, “Center” members raised lots of questions about project management related to the work in Preparation Office, and with regard to these questions Professor Yang suggested the “Center” be operated in the mode of project management, and by designating project principals to coordinate with all parties to complete projects orderly and effectively.
The training further promoted the preparation work of the “Center” and provided support to project construction and management theories and practices.
