Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang visits SUSTech

On the afternoon of November 16 2017, Wan Gang, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and Minister of Science and Technology arrived at SUSTech for a visit focusing on study and guidance.

Wang Weizhong, Party Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Ba Yu, Deputy Secretary-General of the CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Hede Fang, Director of Policy for the Regulation and Supervision Division of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Xu Yuan, Director of the Chuangfa Division, Wu Yuanbin, Director of CSD, Wang Ruijun, Director of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Municipal Secretary-General Guo Yonghang accompanied Mr Wan for the visit. The seminar was presided over by the SUSTech University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong.

The tour started at the campus model table where Wan heard about the future developments in plan. The group were then introduced to various high-tech facilities inclucing the micro-nano processing platform and the recently unveiled Pico Center. Wan used the opportunity to give his full support to the considerable achievements made by SUSTech and said he hoped that the school will continue to strengthen basic research and students’ innovation and entrepreneurship training.

During the meeting, SUSTech President Chen Shiyi presented the mission and objectives of the university, the governing system and operation mechanism, the three-step strategic plan, as well as discipline construction, faculty, personnel training, scientific research, international cooperation and the building of a high-level science and engineering university to the guests.

Wan then took over to say that in the last few years, SUSTech has managed to bring together a group of leaders, staff and students with values, experience and ideas. He then went on to underline the importance of the region, and consequently of the university in the development of the Bay Area with Hong Kong and Macao, and said he hoped SUSTech would become a platform for advancing science and technology.
