On November 20, 2017, Professor and Dean of the Yenching Academy of Peking University Dr. Yuan Ming arrived at SUSTech to give the 135th talk of the SUSTech Lecture Series. She delivered a lecture entitled “Responsibility of International Youth in Great Powers”, which was presided over by Chen Yuehong, director of Humanities Center.

Yuan Ming is a well-known scholar in the field of international relations and has extensive experience in international organizations, which gives her a broad perspective on the current world affairs. She has made important contributions to the exchanges between China and foreign countries, including for the development of global higher education.

Before the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Yuan chatted with some of the students in the audience in a relaxed atmosphere. Then, during her lecture, she took the example of Beijing’s bid for the Olympics to highlight China’s relentless efforts to enhance its international status, and explained to the audience that profound changes are taking place on the international scene. She believes in the general trend of human beings becoming increasingly inter-connected communities in the future, and said that young people have a critical role and responsibility to make the most of their talents and their values.

Yuan Ming’s inspiring in-depth talk highlighted how international youth should actively participate in the construction of big nations. After the lecture, students and professors in the audience had the chance to ask her many questions, to which Dr. Yuan replied patiently and consistently.
