The strategy planning and development seminar was held by the Department of Biology of SUSTC from Sep. 12 to Sep. 13 2015. Wu Chuanyue, the vice presidentl of SUSTC, Xiao Guozhi, the director of the Department of Biology, professors from the Department of Biology, representatives from teaching laboratory of Department of Biology and representatives from scientific research platform of Department of Biology gathered together to conduct a comprehensive discussion about the teaching job, scientific research and planning and development of Department of Biology and other important events.

Wu Chuanyue pointed out that, this seminar is an important meeting to research the strategic development of Department of Biology in the future and he hopes that some problems encountered in teaching job and scientific research can be earnestly solved through this meeting and the Department of Biology can realize the long-run development in the practical and realistic planning.

Xiao Guozhi introduced the construction condition and current status of the Department of Biology and summarized the obtained achievements and works need to be improved in the Department of Biology. He said, the Department of Biology needs a longer planning in the aspects of strategic guideline, stated objective, functional division and so on, and it needs to have detailed arrangement in every link.

Deng Yi, the teaching director of the Department of Biology, presented the conditions and development of the teaching in the Department of Biology at the meeting, and introduced the plan of the Department of Biology in detail in the aspect of “the setting of undergraduate curriculum”, “scientific research and innovation practices”, “transformation and goal of education”, etc..

Whereafter, professors of the Department of Biology participating in the meeting conducted an in-depth discussion in the aspects of “talent cultivation, discipline construction, scientific research, teaching innovation, teaching staff and supports for research”.

In this strategic seminar a consensus has been reached on the key problems emerging in the development of the Department of Biology, clarifies thoughts for the future development, and plays an important role in the formulation of the next development goal and the confirmation of overall development.
