On 25th February 2018, seven renowned experts met and shared their ideas in the International Conference Hall of SUSTech, including the experts from Peking University and Zhejiang University. The forum focused on how universities strengthen students’ physical health and improve physical education quality, which makes students’ campus life more colorful and active. It has organized a series of exciting physical activities in SUSTech since the university’s establishment, which shows SUSTech’s commitment to physical education development.

The expert panel generated many brilliant ideas at the meeting. Topics included faculty quality improvement, sports team organization, curriculum reforms, and talents cultivation. The expert group agreed that SUSTech should learn from first-class universities worldwide, by observing advanced western experiences and integrating the Olympic spirit into university culture. Only in this way can SUSTech attract sports talents and build up its own athletic spirit.

The experts commented that “Shenzhen has its particular regional advantages, particularly given the strong relationships between the city and higher education. It’s significant for SUSTech to utilize unique geographic strengths to promote education reform. Through improved physical fitness, students can concentrate better and improve their mental faculties, resulting in better academic outcomes.”

Physical Center Chair Dong Lunhong delivered a work report called “SUSTech Physical Education Planning 2018-2022”, illustrating her opinions based on the base and trend aspects, guiding thoughts, development goal, main tasks, and safety measures. The experts showed great interest in Dong’s report. The experts said that the planning was very scientific and realistic. They believed that SUSTech would make great progress if the planning can run appropriately.

“There is a demand for improving P.E. lessons quality,” said Deputy Party Secretary Li Fengliang. “The physical center should focus on strengthening students’ physique and enriching their campus life. Adopting professional suggestions from experts will help us improve SUSTech physical education. We aspire to create a brand, building a brand-new SUSTech full of physical spirit and energy.”

The expert group provided numerous helpful suggestions for SUSTech to promote education reform. SUSTech believes that it will achieve more thorough physical education in the future, that will improve students lives.
