On March 16th, Wang Jie, a professor from Peking University’s School of Mathematical Sciences gave a guest lecture at the Southern University of Science and Technology on the fantastic and unknown relationship between music and mathematics.
Wang explained the relationship between music and mathematics by introducing a definition of music and mathematics, examining the methods used in making musical instruments, the historical links between music and mathematics, and the correspondence between musicians and mathematicians. He also introduced how artificial intelligence creates and plays music, by playing a section of music that he made using artificial intelligence.
Professor Wang Jie is also a postdoctoral supervisor and the director-general of CACR, the Chinese Association for Cryptologic Research. His main fields of study are Algebra, Combinatorial Mathematics, and Cryptology. He has also received the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation for Young Scholars among other government allowances.
