Professor Liu Junguo won MOE’s Research Award for Outstanding Young Scholars

Recently, Professor Liu Junguo from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at SUSTech received an Outstanding Research Award of Outstanding Young Scholars in Higher Education Institutions from the Ministry of Education.

The Research Award for Outstanding Young Scholars is one of the four major awards established by the MOE in 2015. It aims to award young professors under 40 who have made a great impact in basic scientific research, encouraging them to devote to science. The experts of the MOE evaluate a wide range of issues for each candidate, including their academic achievements. 

The candidates are strictly evaluated, including peer-reviewing their publications as well as a review by an expert committee. The experts of MOE made the final decision.

Professor Liu Junguo is also the recipient of National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholar. His main research field is water resources and ecological restoration. As an excellent young professor, he has published more than 120 papers in renowned journals such as Nature, Science, PNAS, and Nature Communications.

Professor Liu Junguo was the member of the Technical Advisory Committee of “Water for Life” UN-Water Best Practices Award, while also being the chairperson of the ten-year hydrological plan of International Association of Hydrological Sciences and the co-editor of Journal of Water and Climate Change. Professor Liu was also the director-general of Beijing Association of Ecological Restoration and the chairman of the Beijing Environmental Protection Association.
