On May 10, the Department of Degree Management & Postgraduate Education (DDMPE) at PRC Ministry of Education (MOE) released a list of higher education institutions that have been recently approvedto award new doctoral and master’s degrees. Four brand new doctoral programs from SUSTech (mathematics, physics, biology,and mechanics) can now get involved in admission work, designing education scheme and awarding degrees. SUSTech has become the Chinese university that needed the least amount of time to obtain the right to award the doctoral degree, enhancing its ability to comprehensively foster talents. In March, SUSTech had seven master programs approved: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, mechanics, engineering, and electronic science and technology.
DDMPE and Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee (also at MOE) also announced the five standards in determining a higher education institution’s right to award master or doctoral degrees:
