On May 14, University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong paid a visit to SUSTech’s Political Education & Research Center (PERC) and Student Study Group (SSG). University Council Vice Chairman Li Fengliang and other university leaders also attended the event.

At PERC, Guo Yurong stressed that political and ideological education are key components of students’ overall education. As a university operating under the system of socialism of Chinese characteristics, SUSTech will follow CPC’s lead by facilitating political education based on students’ overall development.

University Council Vice Chairman Li Fengliang said: “Political and ideological education at SUSTech should be based on the national curriculum but also innovative at the same time. The education scheme needs to take students’ life experience and practical needs into consideration.”

The PERC Director introduced the basic facts and recent developments of the center, and all attendees took part in profound discussions on ideological and political education at SUSTech.

Next, Guo Yurong and her delegation arrived at the SSG, read books such as “The Communist Manifesto” with the students, and exchanged ideas on the classic texts. Guo also talked about the history of Communism in China and the struggles CPC comrades faced around the time of the Second World War, hoping students could learn from the comrades’ merits and strive for excellence. Li shared the same sentiments and added that students should emphasize practice when it comes to Marxism and socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Founded by CPC students, SSG is a student society that aims at studying important theories, carrying out social practices, promoting Marxism in China, and fostering well-rounded talents with both patriotism and global vision.
